About
A field notebook for the city's quieter inhabitants.

A black-crowned night heron — the picture that started this body of work.
I'm Lex, a photographer based in New York City. For the last decade I've been following hawks across rooftops, herons through Central Park, and stray cats down Lower East Side blocks.
My work sits between wildlife photography and urban documentary. I'm interested in the moments where the two overlap — a turkey vulture on a curb, a wood duck on a man-made pond, a snow leopard caught between bars and ferns at the Bronx Zoo. The city is full of these collisions if you're willing to wait for them.
I shoot mostly with a long lens and natural light. I print on cotton rag. I publish occasional field notes in the journal and take on a small number of commissions and print sales each year.
